F.A.Q - General

F.A.Q - General

Often, our guests have travel planning questions before they travel. We have collected the most common questions and answers, for you as you plan your trip Asia.

How is Orient-Go able to offer such competitive prices?

Our unique style of off the beaten track, face-to-face travel is the only way to really experience a destination, but it also serves to keep the costs down. We spend your money providing an authentic experience, instead of on lavish hotels and expensive western-style meals. We pass these savings on to you with our low prices. Another thing you'll notice are the inclusions. While we don't include everything, we do throw in the major highlights of a destination, the things that everyone goes to see. On every itinerary we show you the 'Included Highlights' of your trip, things that many other companies charge locally for. We leave many other activities as options, to provide you the freedom and flexibility to choose what you want to do on a daily basis.

Do you tours include international airfare?

Travellers arrive from all over the world to begin our tours and as such it is not possible to include international airfare in our prices.

Why do you need a copy of our passport before you confirm air reservations?
All names on air tickets must be issued with the same names as on passports, so that air tickets and passport match exactly. If names are incorrect on an air ticket, a traveler may be denied boarding.

What will my accommodations be like?
We typically book luxe, culturally authentic accommodations for our travelers. In more remote areas they are the best available in each location. We can also work with those on a budget, and strive to ensure beyond-the-ordinary accommodations for all our travelers.

What type of food should I expect?
Asia is a cuisine destination par excellence, and in the vast majority of the countries in our region the delectable food will be a highlight of your journey. Exceptions include Mongolia, Bhutan and Tibet, where quality and variety are generally not on par with other countries in the region. Nonetheless, tasty, serviceable fare is readily available in these locales as well.

Will there be laundry service?
Laundry service is available in nearly every locale throughout our region. Exceptions include trekking routes, some jungle and monastery stays, and only limited service in remote regions such as Mongolia.

What are the age restrictions on your tours?

To travel independently you must be at least 18 years of age. There are no upper age limits on our tours however travelers with pre existing medical conditions are required to complete a medical questionnaire. Our Family Adventures are open to families with children aged between 4 and 17 years of age. Our standard (non-family) adventures are open to children aged 10 years or older when accompanied by a parent.

Can you provide me with a list of the hotels we will be staying at?

Starting and ending hotels are listed on your Final Confirmation document. We use a variety of hotels en-route and so a complete list of hotels won't be provided until day 1 of your tour. If your family requires contact information, or in case of emergency, please have them phone 86-15102105528. If our office is closed please refer to the emergency phone number that is found on the Final Confirmation document, this number can be reached 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

What type of ground transportation is used on your tours?

Trip specific information on transportation can be found on the itinerary however in most cases we use private transportation. At some destinations we use public transportation. We've found that how you get there significantly influences the tone of your journey and public transportation allows face-to-face interaction with the local people.

What is the most appropriate type of luggage to bring?

We strongly recommend bringing a backpack or duffel bag, as suitcases can be cumbersome and difficult to store in buses, under seats, etc.. Keep in mind that you will normally have to carry your own luggage on and off buses and trains and up and down hotel staircases. Suitcases with wheels may not work well on dirt or cobblestone roads.

What clothing should I pack for one of your journeys?

We always recommend packing as light as possible however the specific requirements for your tour will vary widely depending on where and when you are traveling. Our 'What to pack' document includes a suggested packing list.

Can you help arrange my travel visas?

Requirements for travel visas vary widely depending on your nationality and your destination. Although we are unable to arrange visas on your behalf we have provided links on our page to websites that will help you determine if visas are required. If you do require a visa you can arrange them yourself or use the services of a travel agent or visa processing company.

What vaccinations are recommended for this journey?
As we are not physicians and cannot provide you with specific medical advice, we strongly encourage you to check with your personal physician or local travel clinic at least 6 weeks before embarking on your journey for up-to-date information regarding medical precautions and immunizations for your particular travel destination(s).

For comprehensive information please refer to the Center for Disease Control’s Traveler’s Health Information Web site: www.cdc.gov/travel

Will I be affected by high altitude?
Most destinations in our region present no altitude concerns whats ever. The vast majority of travelers to Bhutan or Yunnan, China experience no effects. If you are traveling to Tibet, Nepal, the passes of Central Asia or the Indian Himalayas, you may experience the effects of high altitude, depending on where you go and how quickly you ascend. Call a Travel Specialist to discuss concerns you may have.

Is tipping included and if not, how much should I budget?

Tips are not included in the tour price and tipping is entirely at your discretion. Our What’s Included document includes suggested tipping amounts.
