Treasures of Angkor

Asian Bustle & Timeless Spirituality

Asian Bustle & Timeless Spirituality

Daily details in brief

Day 1 Arrive Siem Reap. The artistic, architectural and cultural legacy of the Khmer Empire from the 9th-13th centuries is epitomised in the ruins of the Angkor area. Day 2-3 Siem Reap. Pedaling past the royal city of Angkor Thom, at first glance it seems like a shapeless mass of stone, but further scrutiny reveals enigmatic faces all looking content and serenely towards the picturesque Ta Prohm. A jungle-clad temple left to nature, it is a must see at sunset when the fading light enhances the mysterious ambiance. The magnificent roots of a tree push itself between the temple’s huge stone blocks in an embrace, emphasizing the ‘lost city’ feel of this ancient empire. Day 4 Visit Tonle Sap. Day 5-6 Phnom Penh. The charming capital, Phnom Penh, was once known as ‘The Pearl of the East’ due to its attractive French colonial buildings and wild frangipani-lined boulevards. The Royal Palace offers a beguiling combination of eastern and French architecture. Day 7 Kep. Not many visitors make it south of Phnom Penh, which is exactly why you should make the effort to see this picturesque part of the kingdom. Kep, a tiny seaside village with a smattering of boutique resorts, is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy a sunset drink. Day 8-9 Sihanoukville. Sihanoukville is the most popular beach resort in Cambodia, although it still retains the charm of a sleepy coastal town. Spend some time soaking up the sun and swimming in the clear turquoise waters off Occheuteal beach. If you wish to venture further afield, take a boat trip to one of the remote tropical islands such as Koh Rong where you will find a large heart-shaped bay abundant with marine life. Day 10 Depart Sihanoukville. Drag yourself away from the beach and return to Phnom Penh. From Phnom Penh, it is a short flight to Bangkok or Saigon where you may choose to continue your travels.
